MEET THE DENTIST

Meet Dr. Teresita V. Hernandez

Dr. Teresita, or Teri as her colleagues call her, graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry (LSUSD) in 1988 with her general dentistry degree. She was honored to receive the General Dentistry Award granted to top students in Dental Clinics. She also received other awards, including Best Female Dentist Award, Geriatric Dentistry Award, and the American Association of Dental Research Award (AADR).
During her 4 years at LSUSD, she performed neuroscience research, winning several fellowships and awards from NIH, and published several publications of direct connections in brain stem involved with dental pain reception. In 2001, she won the prestigious National Women History Month Award in the medical-dental field, presented to her by the mayor of New Orleans.
Prior to her dental education, she graduated from the first 2-year program in dental technology, with an associate’s degree from LSUSD in 1977. She worked as a certified dental technician, fabricating dental prostheses such as crowns, bridges and removable dental prosthetics. During her career as a dental technician, she attended part-time studies at Tulane University and UNO before attending UNO full time to complete her pre-dental requirements. She was accepted to LSUSD in 1984 with minimum requirements.

Dr. Hernandez is a member of New Orleans Dental Association (NODA) and the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA). Moreover, she owns her own practice in Jefferson, Louisiana, the oldest suburb in New Orleans area. Her patient-base extends into Greater New Orleans area, which includes Metairie, Kenner, Westbank, and Eastbank. She’s honored that her patient base also extends into the Northshore, Baton Rouge, and Houma areas as well.
Dr. Teresita is fluent in Spanish, thereby serving a large percentage of Hispanic patients in the area. She is Cuban-American and is very proud of her heritage. She immigrated to USA at the age of 5. She attended grammar school in the Marigny area and high school in the Bywater area. As you can see, Dr. Hernandez has very well established roots in New Orleans. She presently resides in Jefferson Parish. She is a proud parent of 2 children. Her son is in college. Her daughter is a Senior in High School. They both work in her Dental office part time while in school. She’s very proud of both of them. Her hobbies include taking care and having fun with her pets: 3 dogs, 2 parrots and fish. In her spare time, she also enjoys gardening , traveling to Florida frequently with her family, and completing real estate renovations. She is a hands-on dentist and mother who is very involved in managing her practice and her home life. She makes great efforts communicating directly with her patients to access their individual dental needs.
